14-Year-Old Who Made 'It Gets Better' Video Commits Suicide Amidst Bullying

By Richard Lawson

Back in May, Buffalo teen Jamey Rodermeyer contributed a video to the "It Gets Better" campaign. Though only 14, Rodermeyer felt he had a message of hope to send whoever was watching. Now, four months later, he's dead of a suicide.

Jamey's parents, who found him dead at their home early Monday morning, say that he had been bullied because of his perceived sexuality for years, but that they thought that he was doing better, having started high school three weeks ago. Following his death, they now suspect he'd just gotten better at hiding the effects of being harassed. Friends at his school say he was still being teased and worse on a regular basis.

the school didn't kill him, chris, you fundamentalist nutbag. He was bullied in school and he committed suicide as a result. You think he would have done the same if he was going to Montessori? he was bullied by members of our society. and of course there is bullying in a montessori school..

the school did not bully him. he was not bullied because it was a public school.

you bully people yourself, chris

"he was bullied by members of our society"

lulz.

Public schools are full of bullies, the teachers especially.

Also, you're the bully & always have been.

I was repeatedly terrorized by several other boys throughout junior high and high school. It was all focused on my body size, as I was small for my age.

When given the opportunity, boys will use boys they perceive to be inferior to them for the purpose of building up their own ego and becoming a man.

This is universal in scope. The solution is to become big later on through working out, and then coming back to kick the asses of the people who abused you. There is no other way.

Well, if someone bigger than those boys was there to protect you, you'd have had nothing to worry about. The age segregation in public schools prevents that from happening, it's not like it's some part of human nature, no one gets picked on when you go to the grocery store.
