Polls Find Maryland, Florida Ready for Marijuana Reform

Polls from two more states this week show an increasing acceptance of the need to reform marijuana laws. In a Florida poll, Sunshine State voters said they were ready to back medical marijuana, while in a Maryland poll, Old Line State voters said they were ready to decriminalize and/or legalize the weed.

Voters in the two states are joining a growing cavalcade of marijuana reform supporters in state polls, some of them in places where the support seemed unlikely. Just in the month of September, different polls showed majority support for marijuana legalization in Louisiana, majority support for decriminalization and a near majority (47%) for legalization in Michigan, majority support for decriminalization and medical marijuana in Oklahoma, and majority support for legalization in California.

In Florida, where the Right to Medical Marijuana Initiative signature-gathering campaign is underway, a Public Policy Polling survey found support for a medical marijuana ballot measure at 62%, with only 26% opposed and 12% undecided.

That poll found strong support for medical marijuana among Democrats (68%) and independents (74%). And while there wasn't majority support among Republicans, more Republicans supported medical marijuana (46%) than opposed it (41%).

In Maryland, a Public Policy Polling survey found nearly three-quarters (72%) support for medical marijuana, more than two-thirds (68%) for decriminalization, and a slight majority (53%) for legalization. (The legalization question asked: "Would you support or oppose changing Maryland law to make marijuana legal for adults 21 and over, and regulating and taxing marijuana similarly to alcohol?")

The poll was commissioned by the Marijuana Policy Project and the ACLU of Maryland, both of which have been working with the state legislature in Annapolis to loosen pot penalties. This year, the legislature approved a medical marijuana program, but rejected efforts to decriminalize or legalize marijuana.

"Most Maryland voters recognize that marijuana prohibition has failed and believe it is time to adopt a more sensible approach," said Rachelle Yeung, legislative analyst for MPP. "By regulating marijuana like alcohol we can take marijuana sales out of the underground market and put them behind the counters of legitimate, tax-paying businesses. Marijuana is objectively less harmful than alcohol, and it is time to treat it that way."

"Our current marijuana prohibition policies are grossly ineffective," said Sara Love, public policy director for the ACLU of Maryland. "It's time to take a commonsense approach to public safety and criminal justice. We should not be wasting resources arresting people simply for possessing marijuana. Enforcement of these misguided marijuana laws is having a disproportionate and detrimental impact on communities of color. A majority of voters agree it is time for a change."

Elected officials are supposed to lead, but when it comes to marijuana law reform, it is becoming increasingly clear that the public is going to have to lead the elected officials by their noses.

Perpetual Chaos and Crises

I find it absolutely fascinating how the president, along with his national-security state apparatus, can instantaneously throw the entire nation into crisis mode, this time with everyone in angst over whether the president should or should not bomb Syria. It's a perfect demonstration of the power and influence that the U.S. national-security state and its military empire around the world have over the American people and how easy it is for this apparatus to keep the American people in a state of perpetual chaos, crisis, fear, anxiety, and turmoil.

Take a look at the Swiss. Do you see them in turmoil over Syria's civil war? Do you see them pacing the floors, worrying about what to do about Syria? Do you see them having a national debate over what to do about the Syrian government's purported use of chemical weapons?

No. You don't see any of that. That's because the Swiss government's foreign policy is much like the foreign policy on which the United States was founded -- a policy of non-intervention in the affairs of other nations. In Switzerland -- just as in the United States for more than 100 years after America's founding -- there is no foreign aid, foreign military bases, embargoes, sanctions, torture, indefinite incarceration, Guantanamo Bay, military tribunals, war on terrorism, coups, support of dictatorships, and other aspects of a pro-empire, pro-interventionist way of life.

Instead, the Swiss government is entirely devoted to the defense of Switzerland. Unlike the U.S. government, it stays out of the affairs of other nations.

In a Fourth of July address to Congress, John Quincy Adams pointed out that America does not go abroad "in search of monsters to destroy." His point was that lots of bad things happen all over the world. There are brutal dictatorships, famines, oppression, and tyranny. The U.S. government will not go abroad to save people from any of these, Adams said. Instead, it will simply devote itself to defending the United States, just as the Swiss government does today.

Does that mean that our American ancestors didn't care about the suffering of people in foreign countries? Of course not. It simply means that they didn't believe that it was the role of the U.S. government to serve as the world's international policeman, jury, judge, executioner, and welfare provider. Indeed, they believed that if the U.S. government were to serve such a role, it would only make matters worse, not only over there but also here at home, especially by converting the U.S. government into a "dictatress," the term employed by Adams in his Fourth of July speech.

Does that mean that Americans did nothing to help foreigners suffering under tyranny, oppression, or starvation? No, it does not mean that. In fact, that was one of the things that open immigration was all about. With their policy of limited government and open immigration, our American ancestors effectively sent the following message to the people of the world: "If you are suffering under tyranny, oppression, or starvation, our government will not come and save you but if you are able to escape, you can come to America and you will be free to stay. With our open-immigration policy, our government will not forcibly return you to your country of origin."

Moreover, private Americans, on a voluntary basis, were free to donate their money, their time, and even their lives to any cause anywhere in the world, and they often did.

Today, thanks largely to the adoption of the Cold War-era national-security state apparatus, that founding vision of our American ancestors has been turned upside down. We now have a federal government that claims the authority and has the military capability of going abroad in search of all sorts of monsters to destroy. At the same time, it tightly regulates the borders to "keep us safe" from the enemies it engenders with its actions overseas, even to the point of excluding people from the nations it purportedly is trying to save from tyranny, oppression, and starvation. And it punishes Americans who help foreigners in violation of the U.S. government's ever-expanding programs of sanctions and embargoes.

In the process, today's Americans, unlike our American ancestors, live lives of perpetual crisis, chaos, anxiety, fear, and turmoil.

President Obama is asking Congress to debate whether to approve his plan to bomb Syria.

It's time for the American people to be debating a much larger issue: Has the time come to restore America's founding principle of non-interventionist foreign policy?

How Cops Treat Their Own Children

When they're not sticking up other people's children, how are cops treating their own kids?

Eddy County Sheriff Brandon Maygra was charged Monday with Class C felony child abuse or neglect stemming from incidents occurring between the dates of March 25 and June 19 at a home in New Rockford.
The charges were filed in the Eddy County Courthouse, a part of the Southeast Judicial District, in New Rockford.
Information submitted with the filing points to extreme spanking of a 10-year-old boy, his stepson, as the root of the complaint, rather than of a sexual or more deviant nature.
The first instance, according to the information, occurred on or about April 23, which is when the minor child, referred to as "G.G.G." in the report, claims that Maygra threw another minor child, M.J.M., "across the room onto her bed," which caused him mental injury, which may be better summarized as emotional injury.
Physical injury came on May 24, according to the report. Maygra was asked by the mother of G.G.G. to drive all the way back home, about 130 to 140 miles, from where he was in Crookston, Minn., to spank the child and "teach him a lesson." She was offended after she trashed a pizza that the child refused to eat.
It took "a few hours" for Maygra to return home and during that time G.G.G. claims that he "was scared while he sat there waiting."
Upon arrival, Maygra, the report claims, grabbed G.G.G. and "pulled him off his bed by his ankles and flipped him over onto the floor, and then ... used his open hand over the clothing on G.G.G. and struck G.G.G. on the lower left side of his back and G.G.G. said it hurt really bad."
The child reported that Maygra was upset that he had to travel so far to discipline the child and that he is "the law and" is "able to spank him from breakfast until supper." Photographs of the child taken by a Crookston police officer revealed a bruise roughly 4 inches by 5 inches on the lower back, consistent with the interview.

He is "the law" and he can do whatever he wants.

These are the criminals who feel they have a right to rule us.

Deputies Caught Dumping Name Tags

You know a police force is bent when its officers start dumping their name tags. That's what happened before an illegal traffic stop in Malheur County, Oregon. The Malheur County Sheriff's Department has a sweetheart deal with the infamously cruel Big Loop Rodeo, in the remote and dying town of Jordan Valley, Oregon.

The traffic stop was illegal, but prompted by the Big Loop Rodeo board, because the board members are afraid of being exposed for committing terrible animal abuse. As their own police dash camera proves, the deputies knew what they were doing was wrong, but they did it anyway. They apparently believed that hiding their identities would help protect their misdeeds.

Apparently these guys need to watch more John Wayne movies. The crooks are supposed to wear scarves over their faces, not take off their badges.

USF Student Harassed by Feds for Transporting Humanitarian Aide to Syria

Khalid Shakfeh, a microbiology student at the University of South Florida, was questioned by officials with the Department of Defense (DoD) after he returned from a trip to Syria in which he helped transport and provide humanitarian materials, reported WTSP.

The 18-year old student is an American citizen born of Syrian immigrants. Shakfeh and his sister traveled with the Syrian American Council, a group that aims at supporting human rights, civil liberties and promotes a friendly relationship between Syria and the US.

During the March trip, Shakfeh said he provided basic medical supplies like gauze, Tylenol and Advil to Syrians who lacked access to basic necessities.

Upon his return, Shakfeh says he was contacted by the MacDill-based U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), a group that specializes in synchronize planning of global operations against terrorist networks.

?What did you? What were the people there facing? What do they need and things like that?? asked SOCOM officials.

Shakfeh told officials that he could provide them the ?best? and ?most clear? answers if they submitted their questions in writing. SOCOM failed to submit to his request.

A few days later officials sought after Shakfeh again, this time at his father?s medical practice. The American student stood his ground again telling the DoD officials that he would submit his answers if they provided him the questions in writing. The DoD declined and Shakfeh says he hasn?t heard from them since.

?The FBI and other government agencies actively targeting us just to harass? a means of harassment,? Shakfeh said.

Spokesperson for the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Hassan Shibly, said he?s seen patterns of the US government targeting people based on their background, color, and religion, questioning and harassing them without cause.

He calls the behavior by the DoD ?un-American and unacceptable.?

The fact the US government has been targeting US Syrian immigrants for some time now, illustrates the US?s perception of the relationship between the two countries.

As of Friday, the US announced no specific plans on how they intend to move forward on the Syrian conflict, but has moved a sixth warship into the Mediterranean as a ?precaution.?

The US currently has six warships in place, with reportedly five destroyers each carrying an estimated three dozen or more Tomahawk missiles for a combined total of about 200 missiles, according to a Reuters report.

This Week's Corrupt Cops Stories

Two Texas cops lose their jobs, a California jail guard gets busted at the playground, a Tennessee sheriff's lieutenant cops to slinging pain pills, and an Arizona Customs officer is headed for the pen. Let's get to it:

In Blue Mound, Texas, one Blue Mound police officer was fired and another resigned Monday after they were accused of tipping off the mayor that his name had been mentioned in a drug investigation. The mayor has denied any drug involvement, but his name came up during an investigation into drug sales at a local business by the Tarrant County Drug Task Force. Task force members tried unsuccessfully four times to purchase drugs at the business. Officer Robin Wall told Officer Fred Jepsen a task force member had asked him if he had ever seen the mayor going into the business, and Jepsen then informed the mayor, who promptly called the deputy chief of police to tell him one of his officers was divulging information about an investigation. Jepesen resigned his position and Wall was fired.

In Merced, California, a Merced County jail guard was arrested last Friday not for smuggling drugs into the jail, but for selling drugs to a minor. Officer Micha Justin Imler, 34, is charged with selling to a minor on or near a school's grounds. Three other suspects were arrested on similar charges at the same time. Imler is on paid administrative leave pending a full investigation.

In Knoxville, Tennessee, a former Cocke County sheriff's lieutenant pleaded guilty last Tuesday to peddling pain pills. Richard Caldwell, a former lieutenant and shift supervisor with the Sheriff's Office, pleaded guilty to delivery of the Schedule III controlled substance hydrocodone. Caldwell went down after an FBI investigation two years ago showed he was involved in illicit prescription drug distribution. Under his plea agreement, he will be sentenced to two years in prison in October.

In Tucson, Arizona, a former Customs and Border Protection officer was sentenced Monday to 12 years in federal prison for allowing loads of marijuana to enter the US. Luis Carlos Vasquez let the loads pass through the lane he monitored at the Douglas, Arizona, port of entry. Prosecutors had sought 19 years; the defense argued for the mandatory minimum five years.

So are we the mundanes responsible for these fuckers choices or cannot those swine even police themselves? Why do not they shoot each other when they find their own boys in blue fucking the proverbial dog to you know cull the fucking herd? And some of these sentences are not really equevilant to what a mundane would recieve, what utter bullshit, is it because the fucking useless judges can't do their fucking jobs properly, then fire the fuckers as well. There is a lot of this going on country wide, that I know. After Bush was in office the attitude of the police changed and became more militarized.
Using all kinds of high and low technology, back scatter cameras which are thru wall cameras,,, infrasound,,, untrasound,,micowave and sonic, acoustics all used by local police now but only on certain targets, they have deemed crazy as cover.

Now we know what it is like to live under a despotic state. wait it will get worse.

DoD Training Manual: 'Extremist' Founding Fathers 'Would Not Be Welcome In Today's Military'

Manual lists people concerned with ?individual liberties, states? rights, and how to make the world a better place? as potential extremists

Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch recently obtained a Department of Defense training manual which lists people who embrace "individual liberties" and honor "states? rights," among other characteristics, as potential "extremists" who are likely to be members of "hate groups."

Marked "for training purposes only," the documents, obtained Thursday through a Freedom of Information Act request submitted in April, include PowerPoint slides and lesson plans, among which is a January 2013 Air Force "student guide" distributed by the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute simply entitled "Extremism."

Judicial Watch?s FOIA request asked for "Any and all records concerning, regarding, or related to the preparation and presentation of training materials on hate groups or hate crimes distributed or used by the Air Force."

As the group notes, "The document defines extremists as ?a person who advocates the use of force or violence; advocates supremacist causes based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or national origin; or otherwise engages to illegally deprive individuals or groups of their civil rights.?"

The manual goes on to bar military personnel from "active participation" in such extremist organization activities as "publicly demonstrating," "rallying," "fundraising" and "organizing," basically denying active-duty military from exercising the rights they so ardently fight to defend.

It begins its introduction of a section titled, "Extremist ideologies," by describing the American colonists who sought independence from British rule as a historical example of extremism.

"In U.S. history, there are many examples of extremist ideologies and movements. The colonists who sought to free themselves from British rule and the Confederate states who sought to secede from the Northern states are just two examples,? according to the training guide.

In a section drawing inspiration from a 1992 book titled "Nazis, Communists, Klansmen, and Others on the Fringe: Political Extremism in America," the manual also lists "Doomsday thinking" under "traits or behaviors that tend to represent the extremist style."

Extremists often predict dire or catastrophic consequences from a situation or from a failure to follow a specific course, and they tend to exhibit a kind of crisis-mindedness. It can be a Communist takeover, a Nazi revival, nuclear war, earthquakes, floods, or the wrath of God. Whatever it is, it is just around the corner unless we follow their program and listen to their special insight and wisdom, to which only the truly enlightened have access. For extremists, any setback or defeat is the beginning of the end.

"Nowadays," the manual explains, "instead of dressing in sheets or publicly espousing hate messages, many extremists will talk of individual liberties, states' rights, and how to make the world a better place."

Judicial Watch also acknowledges the Southern Poverty Law Center "is listed as a resource for information on hate groups and referenced several times throughout the guide," even though the group itself was directly responsible for a "hate crime" perpetrated on the Family Research Council after it was listed on the SPLC?s "hate map."

Infowars readers will find much of the training guide?s contents unsurprising as they merely reinforce what we have exhaustively documented in the past.

In 2009, Infowars obtained the "law enforcement sensitive" contents of a Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC) report entitled "The Modern Militia Movement" which listed supporters of presidential candidates Ron Paul, Chuck Baldwin, and Bob Barr as potential "militia" influenced terrorists.

Also, in July 2012 Infowars blew the lid on a Department of Homeland Security-funded study, produced by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism at the University of Maryland, that characterized Americans who are "suspicious of centralized federal authority," and "reverent of individual liberty" as "extreme right-wing" terrorists.

Indeed, the latest report echoes scenes from Alex Jones? prescient documentary 9/11: The Road to Tyranny, made over a decade ago, which covered the fact that FEMA and other government bureaus have for years been training law enforcement agencies to regard people who espouse conservative ideologies, such as those represented by the Founding Fathers, as terrorists.

It can no longer be denied that military and local law enforcement crosshairs have gradually been realigned from targeting phantom terrorists overseas to targeting domestic "extremists," a broad, all-encompassing term that accommodates anyone generally challenging or questioning the status quo.

As Judicial Watch notes, although the documents were obtained through the Air Force, the fact that they originated in a DOD office means they have likely been distributed throughout the government?s various agencies.

Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton concluded that the documents fall in line with the Obama administration?s ?nasty habit of equating basic conservative values with terrorism,? and that the language closely ?echoes the IRS targeting language of conservative and Tea Party investigations.? ?And now? its Defense Department suggests that the Founding Fathers, and many conservative Americans, would not be welcome in today's military? After reviewing this document, one can't help but worry for the future and morale of our nation's armed forces."
