Friend: Michael Hastings Was Working on "Biggest Story Yet" About CIA

Sgt. Joe Biggs says journalist would never have driven at high speed
Paul Joseph Watson

A friend of Michael Hastings told Fox News today that the Rolling Stone journalist was working on the ?the biggest story yet? about the CIA before his suspicious death and that Hastings drove ?like a grandma,? making it extremely out of character for him to be speeding in the early hours of the morning.

Sgt. Joe Biggs told Fox News? Megyn Kelly that ?something didn?t feel right? after Hastings sent a panicked email saying the authorities were on his tail, adding that the story of him driving at high speed in the early hours of the morning was completely out of character.

?His friends and family that know him, everyone says he drives like a grandma, so that right there doesn?t seem like something he?d be doing, there?s no way that he?d be acting erratic like that and driving out of control,? said Biggs, adding that ?things don?t add up, there?s a lot of questions that need to be answered.?

Biggs said he had contacted Mercedes asking them if it was normal for their cars to ?blow up to that extent? and for the engine to fly out 100 feet from the site of the crash.

Biggs also confirmed that Hastings was working on a story about the CIA and that it was ?going to be the biggest story yet.?

As we reported yesterday, questions surrounding the death of Hastings are not only the domain of conspiracy theorists. Former counter-terror czar under two different presidents Richard Clarke told the Huffington Post that the fatal crash of Hastings? Mercedes C250 Coupe was "consistent with a car cyber attack."

"So if there were a cyber attack on the car -- and I'm not saying there was," he said, adding "I think whoever did it would probably get away with it," and that ?intelligence agencies for major powers? have such capabilities.

Clarke?s speculation that Hastings? vehicle could have been remotely hijacked is echoed by Salon.com?s Andrew Leonard, who cites two studies by researchers at the University of Washington and the University of California, San Diego, "Experimental Security Analysis of a Modern Vehicle," and ?Comprehensive Experimental Analyses of Automotive Attack Surfaces.?

The studies detail how ?it is a relatively trivial exercise to access the computer systems of a modern car and take control away from the driver.?

Questions about the circumstances behind Hastings? death have persisted because he made a number of enemies in positions of power.

After Wikileaks reported that Hastings had contacted them in the hours before his death complaining about being under investigation by the FBI, the federal agency denied the claim.

According to Hastings' colleague Cenk Uygur, the writer was, "incredibly tense and very worried, and was concerned that the government was looking in on his material," and also a "nervous wreck" in response to the surveillance of journalists revealed by the AP phone tapping scandal and the NSA PRISM scandal.

BuzzFeed editor Ben Smith added that Hastings had told friends and family "he was concerned that he was under investigation."

Another close friend who wishes to remain anonymous said that Hastings was "very paranoid that he was being watched by the FBI."

It subsequently emerged that Hastings had written a panicked email shortly before his death telling his friends and colleagues that he was going into hiding to escape the attention of the authorities.

?Hey -- the feds are interviewing my "close friends and associates,? the message said. ?Also: I'm onto a big story, and need to go off the [radar] for a bit.?

Implosion of The Houla Massacre Story -- Is Anyone Paying Attention?

by Daniel McAdams

A respected mainstream publication, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), has reported that the infamous Houla massacre in Syria, which the US and NATO hoped would be the casus belli for their planned invasion, was in fact carried out by rebel forces.

Highlighted in the National Review, of all places, the FAZ investigation was exhaustive and convincing.

NRO reports on the original FAZ story:

According to the article's sources, the massacre occurred after rebel forces attacked three army-controlled roadblocks outside of Houla. The roadblocks had been set up to protect nearby Alawi majority villages from attacks by Sunni militias. The rebel attacks provoked a call for reinforcements by the besieged army units. Syrian army and rebel forces are reported to have engaged in battle for some 90 minutes, during which time "dozens of soldiers and rebels" were killed.

"According to eyewitness accounts," the FAZ report continues,

"the massacre occurred during this time. Those killed were almost exclusively from families belonging to Houla's Alawi and Shia minorities. Over 90% of Houla's population are Sunnis. Several dozen members of a family were slaughtered, which had converted from Sunni to Shia Islam. Members of the Shomaliya, an Alawi family, were also killed, as was the family of a Sunni member of the Syrian parliament who is regarded as a collaborator. Immediately following the massacre, the perpetrators are supposed to have filmed their victims and then presented them as Sunni victims in videos posted on the internet.
For weeks, alternative media analysts and even eyewitnesses had been poking enormous holes in the suspiciously convenient Western narrative that Assad's forces slaughtered the villagers, cutting and killing at close range. No one paid attention, as usual.

The NRO piece continues with a fascinating story from a Christian monastery in the vicinity:

"Already at the beginning of April, Mother Agn?s-Mariam de la Croix of the St. James Monastery warned of rebel atrocities' being repackaged in both Arab and Western media accounts as regime atrocities. She cited the case of a massacre in the Khalidiya neighborhood in Homs. According to an account published in French on the monastery's website, rebels gathered Christian and Alawi hostages in a building in Khalidiya and blew up the building with dynamite. They then attributed the crime to the regular Syrian army. 'Even though this act has been attributed to regular army forces . . . the evidence and testimony are irrefutable: It was an operation undertaken by armed groups affiliated with the opposition,' Mother Agn?s-Mariam wrote."
Either Mother Agn?s-Mariam is a liar or Hillary Clinton is a liar. You decide.

A few things to consider in light of these dramatic developments:

1) Western governments and media blamed the Assad government immediately and without evidence, pushing condemnation through the UN Security Council without delay to take advantage of the horror and outrage.

As astute observer James Jatras predicted a month before the Houla deception:

Watch for staged "atrocity" to trigger ?#NATO? action in ?#Syria?: "From ?#Srebrenica? and ?#Racak? to ?#Benghazi? and ?#Homs?" http://t.co/JfyUvKMq
2) The Assad government was telling the truth when it said that Syrian forces did not commit the massacre. According to the "regime change" narrative, the regime to be changed must be immediately and totally discredited so that nothing it claims is to be believed. Even some alternative and antiwar sites painstakingly repeated regime change propaganda about the horrors of the Assad regime -- repeated with particular venom by those who six months earlier could scarcely find Syria on the map. The question is now, if they were telling the truth about Houla, what else have they been telling the truth about all along?

Could it be that the "democratic" Gulf States of Saudi Arabia and Qatar are indeed playing a dirty and destabilizing game? How about Israel, which stands to benefit enormously from the downfall of Iran's closest ally in the region? Today a senior Israeli minister accused the Assad government of genocide and urged international intervention to overthrow the regime. Not to be outdone, Netanyahu added that it is not only the Syrian regime undertaking genocide: also Iran through its proxy Hezbollah is guilty. Some might mention a slow-motion genocide resulting from Israel's policies in the occupied territories, but that would not be polite.

3) UN Secretary General is, as was his predecessor, a mere tool of the US and Western governments who pay his salary. Though he is supposed to be a neutral party he is clearly and unreservedly repeating Western regime-change propaganda.

4) U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, is a psychotic, bloodthirsty monster who deserves to be jailed as a war criminal. When the Syrian government denied responsibility for the Houla massacre, Rice with no evidence immediately dismissed the denial as a "blatant lie." Rice and her evil partners Samantha Power and Hillary Clinton are hell-bent on ensuring that left-wing interventionism is as bloody and destructive as its right-wing counterpart, even if they call it "humanitarian." Alawi and Shia minorities do not count as human to the likes of Rice, Hillary, and Power, so they are not entitled to the same human rights protections. They are standing in the way of progress by continuing to live, so their destruction is all for the greater good.

Syrian government responsibility for Houla was a lie; it was in fact a provocation by the rebels to get the Libya-style foreign intervention they need to overthrow the government. Will anyone listen now that a major mainstream outlet has reported it?

Arrested for Selling Lemonade, Activist Meg McLain Tells Her Story

Lemonade "Terrorism"
by Meg McLain

On August 20th, 2011 at 12:31pm on the Capitol lawn in Washington DC,?Kathryn Dill,?William Duffield, and I were arrested for selling 10cent cups of lemonade. ?The events leading up to our arrest, along with our capture and kidnapping were beautifully documented by several activists who came armed with cameras (see high quality video below); therefore, I feel no need to cover those details. ?However, once we were taken away, there were no more cameras to share our experience.

First, we were placed in a cage in the back of a van and taken to the police station. ?Upon arriving, police took Will inside, leaving Kathryn and I in the?sweltering?cage. ?The men in blue guarding our cage continually taunted us; making jokes and expressing their enjoyment of "locking us away for the weekend", and how our arrests were "marvelous". ?When it was my turn to enter booking, I was taken to a room where I was photographed, forced to remove my jewelry and shoes, then cuffed to a bar while an officer rubbed every part of my body, including my breasts and vagina. ?I was then led down the hall to a small room where I would spend the next 4 hours chained to the wall.

Officer Weatherbee was assigned to my room. ?He began a standard line of questioning, failing to read me my rights in advance. ?I was continually told I would be caged if I failed to give them every detail they requested, which included the names, phone numbers, addresses, ages, etc... of my friends and family. ?I constantly asked "Who was the victim of my supposed crime?", to which they continually answered, "society". ?When I pointed out that the majority of the crowd had been supportive of our cause, and that 'society' was not a person whom I could confront in a court (therefore eliminating my right to face my accuser); I was laughed at and taunted. ?I was also told that my friends would be arrested should they attempt to protest our capture at the police station. ?One officer smirked, "I can do this [booking prisoners] all day. ?Arrest as many as you want."

After a couple of hours, a man in jeans and a blue shirt came into my room with a notepad and paper. ?While I don't remember the name of his job title (Capitol Criminal Investigator or something like that), he basically explained that he investigated organizations that the government believed to be potential terrorist, and the "Lemonade Liberation" had become their newest big threat. ?Although friendly and very light hearted, he seemed?aggravated?with the lack of information I was giving him. ?He wanted to know who the leaders of the organization were [none]; where we held our meetings [we never had any]; where we are based out of [everywhere]; what other plans we had [none]; and a whole line of ridiculous questions that were geared towards finding dangerous, violent, angry people. ?That's not us. ?After several hours of friendly, yet inappropriate questioning, I finally asked, "Where is your line in the sand? ?At what point do you say, 'No. That goes too far, and I'm not willing to do that to peaceful people'? ?Because if you don't know where that line is, you're gonna blindly cross it one day, and regret it for the rest of your life." ?It was at that point he fell silent, then left without saying another word.

Eventually I was able to call my mom from one of the officer's cell phones (because their landlines were all busy), and she was able to contact Nathan Cox, who was able to bring my ID and the names, addresses, and phone numbers the police were?demanding they get before releasing me. ?I was taken to a room where all my tattoos were photographed, and multiple versions of my fingerprints were scanned; after which, I was promptly returned to my room and re-chained to the wall. ?Finally I was taken down a hallway, forced to put an ink thumb print on a stack of paper work, handed my copy, then given back my property, and told I was free to go.

It wasn't until after we were out that we heard about all the support that had poured in for us immediately after our arrest. ?We discovered there had been a massive call flood to the police station, which we realized had been the direct reason our captors became more and more friendly as our detention progressed. ?I also discovered that the police had attempted to discourage Kathryn and Will with lies like, "Those people with the cameras were just using you for their own agenda" or "they didn't give you a Lemonade Liberation tshirt (some shirts a few of us had made for the event), because they are not your friends." ?Luckily these tactics failed; however, I found it encouraging that they didn't even attempt this with me. ?I knew better, and the cops were aware of that.

Our charges were:
Vending without a permitUnlawful conductFailure to obeyWe have all been scheduled to appear in court on October 4th, and we are hoping that people will come out and show their support; be it for us, our cause, or the children who wish to create their own lemonade stand without being harassed or threatened by men with guns. ?Details about this event can be found?here.

While being arrested is not something I enjoy, I am honored I had the opportunity to participate in such a beautiful demonstration of innocence and peace; and shine light on how it is under attack by the very people sworn to protect it. ?But the real heroes of the day were those who ignored the threats of arrest and made their way around the police to purchase a cup of lemonade. ?To see a child shrug at a cops threat, then defiantly disobey it... it was inspirational, and gave me hope for the inevitable positive change that will come from all this.
