Obama Complains That TPP Critics Are 'Conspiracy Theorists' Who 'Lack Knowledge' About Negotiations

by Mike Masnick

It's become fairly clear that the TPP agreement is in trouble these days (for a variety of reasons). And it appears that President Obama is losing his cool concerning the agreement and its critics. In a press conference with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, President Obama lashed out at TPP critics, calling them "conspiracy theorists" whose criticism "reflects lack of knowledge of what is going on in the negotiations." Oh really?
If you take an issue like drugs, for example, the United States does extraordinary work in research and development, and providing medical breakthroughs that save a lot of lives around the world. Those companies that make those investments in that research oftentimes want a return, and so there are all kinds of issues around intellectual property and patents, and so forth.

At the same time, I think we would all agree that if there?s a medicine that can save a lot of lives, then we?ve got to find a way to make sure that it?s available to folks who simply can?t afford it as part of our common humanity. And both those values are reflected in the conversations and negotiations that are taking place around TPP. So the assumption somehow that right off the bat that?s not something we?re paying attention to, that reflects lack of knowledge of what is going on in the negotiations.

But my point is you shouldn?t be surprised if there are going to be objections, protests, rumors, conspiracy theories, political aggravation around a trade deal. You?ve been around long enough, Chuck ? that?s true in Malaysia; it?s true in Tokyo; it?s true in Seoul; it?s true in the United States of America ? and it?s true in the Democratic Party.

Um. You know why those complaining may "lack knowledge of what is going on in the negotiations"? Perhaps it's because the USTR -- a part of the Obama White House -- has insisted that the entire negotiations take place in complete secrecy with no transparency at all. If President Obama doesn't want conspiracy theories about the agreement, and wishes that its critics were more informed about the negotiations, he can change that today by instructing the USTR to release its negotiating positions and promise to make all future negotiating positions public.

But he won't do that. Why? Because the USTR has admitted that if the public knew what was going on with the TPP, it wouldn't support the agreement. And so the negotiations continue in secret. And the President Obama gets frustrated about a lack of knowledge and conspiracy theories? Really?

Obama Supporters: Not Liking Mexican Food is Racist

Video illustrates intellectual bankruptcy of playing the race card
Paul Joseph Watson

A new video by media analyst Mark Dice shows Obama supporters in San Diego expressing their view that it?s racist to not like Mexican food.

Dice invented the narrative that Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner had remarked that he didn?t like Mexican food and that Barack Obama had asked him to resign.

?I think people in his district should consider voting for somebody else,? said one woman.

Another individual is asked if such ?bigotry? should be tolerated in Congress and whether or not Boehner should resign, to which he responds, ?I think he should resign, enough of him?.

Another woman called for Boehner to be ?made an example of,? so that other people don?t repeat such comments in the future.

Another man repeated the call for Boehner to resign before stating, ?hail Obama!?.

Dice was eventually able to find one individual at the end of the clip who remarked that it was ?absurd to think that it?s racist to not like Mexican food?.

The video again illustrates how many on the left are prepared to play the race card under any circumstances whatsoever, thereby denigrating the seriousness of actual racism, because huge numbers of unthinking Americans will blithely accept such rhetoric.

A recent example is MSNBC?s Ed Schultz, who last week argued that a bill to raise the minimum wage was being blocked due to racism. ?I think not raising the minimum wage is a racist policy,? stated Schultz.

In a related story, students in a California school district have been banned from wearing American flag t-shirts on Cinco de Mayo because expressions of ?patriotism? may offend Mexicans, a decision that was upheld by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals despite the fact that it is a blatant violation of the First Amendment.

As Head Of NSA Review Group Obama Appoints Same Person Who "Apologized" For Lying To Congress

by Tyler Durden

It is almost as if the Obama administration is intent on making every possible PR (and of course governance, but it's really the Fed that is in charge of the US so that part is irrelevant) mistake, and then some more.

Recall that on Friday, to much fanfare, the president took credit for the revelations presented by Edward Snowden (because, you see, he would have publicly addressed all the top secret NSA issues regardless, ignoring for a minute that without Snowden all speculation about pervasive NSA domestic surveillance would still be dismissed as simply more conspiracy theory), and announced that he would conduct a review of the policies and espionage procedures in place at the NSA.

Also recall that in a Senate hearing this March, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told Senator Ron Wyden that the NSA did not collect phone records of millions of Americans. This was just three months before the revelations of an NSA leaker made it clear that Clapper was not telling the truth. Pressed on his false testimony before Congress, Clapper apologized for giving an "erroneous" answer but claimed it was just because he "simply didn't think of Section 215 of the Patriot Act." As Ron Paul said: "Wow."

We have no idea what Ron would exclaim at this latest reveleation from the government, although we have a few phrases in mind. Moments ago, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence reported the following:

DNI Clapper Announces Review Group on Intelligence and Communications Technologies

At the direction of the President, I am establishing the Director of National Intelligence Review Group on Intelligence and Communications Technologies to examine our global signals-intelligence collection and surveillance capability.

The Review Group will assess whether, in light of advancements in communications technologies, the United States employs its technical collection capabilities in a manner that optimally protects our national security and advances our foreign policy while appropriately accounting for other policy considerations, such as the risk of unauthorized disclosure and our need to maintain the public trust.

The Review Group will brief its interim findings to the President within 60 days of its establishment, and provide a final report with recommendations no later than Dec. 15, 2013.

James R. Clapper Director of National Intelligence

A question arises: how does one know they are living in an unmitigated disaster of a banana republic where not even an attempt at hiding the crime and corruption takes place? Well, we are not absolutely certain, but we have a distinct feeling that when the president appoints as his impartial "reviewer" of the ultra top secret NSA's policies and capabilities the one man who was caught and exposed and subsequently apologized for lying to Congress, that may be a pretty damn good sign.

Sadly, that is precisely what just happened.

And speaking of comedy and banana republics, here is the memo from the president:

Presidential Memorandum -- Reviewing Our Global Signals Intelligence Collection and Communications Technologies

SUBJECT: Reviewing Our Global Signals Intelligence Collection and Communications Technologies

The United States, like all nations, gathers intelligence in order to protect its national interests and to defend itself, its citizens, and its partners and allies from threats to our security. The United States cooperates closely with many countries on intelligence matters and these intelligence relationships have helped to ensure our common security.

Recent years have brought unprecedented and rapid advancements in communications technologies, particularly with respect to global telecommunications. These technological advances have brought with them both great opportunities and significant risks for our Intelligence Community: opportunity in the form of enhanced technical capabilities that can more precisely and readily identify threats to our security, and risks in the form of insider and cyber threats.

I believe it is important to take stock of how these technological advances alter the environment in which we conduct our intelligence mission. To this end, by the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I am directing you to establish a Review Group on Intelligence and Communications Technologies (Review Group).

Within 60 days of its establishment, the Review Group will brief their interim findings to me through the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), and the Review Group will provide a final report and recommendations to me through the DNI no later than December 15, 2013.

You are hereby authorized and directed to publish this memorandum in the Federal Register.

obomba & his supporters should be shipped off to one of those fema camps... I've noticed that the average American has no idea how complacent they have become to bowing down to authority and entrusting authority at the same time, but bitch when they can't have their way. The point of what this person is proving, people have no clue what they doing, but guaranteed, down the road their actions of their ignorance, these will be the ones that scream the loudest when it comes back to haunt them Sara Oliver---oldladyfromwaco.comThis deluded individual needs to spend some time in a FEMA camp. How could ANY TRUE AMERICAN even consider such an action?
Of course, the comment from 7279 is correct. Many Americans are too lazy to even care.....until it truly effects them....and then it will be far too late.
Sara Oliver---oldladyfromwaco.comAnother comment, if you please, regarding the entity who REALLY rules the world
It is called "The Crown", a corporation actually owing Britain, and is quartered in a 644 acre city within the city of London. It is the banking center of the world, owned and controlled by the originators of what we know as banking today, with primary interest by the Rothschild dynasty.
Also, quartered there is the Freemasonry headquarters and most of the gold for the Vatican, plus their considerable interest and influence. Combined, the rest of the world has been run for their greed for money---all of it in the world if they can get it---power, and control.
They love war, require war, make billions from financing ALL participants in every war they can begin.....like Syria today. But, The Crown owns the BSI, IMF, and the Federal Reserve.....and when they call the US goes to war....or our money system is screwed...and so are we. Great, there are people who are dumb. Ooooooo...there are Obama-lovers who are dumb.

Meanwhile, there's another group asking Republicans who's more responsible for the failed response to Hurricane Katrina: Bush or Obama? 29% said Obama is more responsible (vs. 28% for Bush). True? If you think so, here's a clue: Hurricane Katrina was in 2005; 4 years before Obama became president.

Have your horselaugh, but dumb people are in all walks. I hear they're going to ask Libertarians whether they're in favor or against Liberalism: Better keep your fingers crossed that your group does better than the others.

High School Student Faces 20 Years For Obama Facebook Threat

But not one Obama supporter faced jail for threatening to assassinate Mitt Romney
Paul Joseph Watson

High school teen Cameron D'Ambrosio was arrested on terror charges and faces up to 20 years in prison for a Facebook post in which he made threats against the White House and mentioned the Boston bombings.

"He posted a threat in the form of rap where he mentioned the White House, the Boston Marathon bombing, and said 'everybody you will see what I am going to do, kill people," Methuen Police Chief Joe Solomon?told the Valley Patriot.

In addition to the threats made against the White House, D'Ambrosio also posted a ?Wanted: Dead or Alive? poster of himself and made remarks such as "Fuck politics, Fuck Obama and Fuck the government!!"

D'Ambrosio was arrested after another student brought the Facebook post to the attention of school administrators, who immediately contacted police.

"I do want to make clear he did not make a specific threat against the school or any particular individuals but he did threaten to kill a bunch of people and specifically mentioned the Boston Marathon and the White House. The threat was disturbing enough for us to act and I think our officers did the right thing," said Solomon.

According to Solomon, D'Ambrosio faces up to 20 years in prison for making terroristic threats under MGL. Ch. 269, Section 14. His bail has been set at $1 million dollars.

While no one can excuse the threats made by D'Ambrosio, the case underscores how authorities are increasingly focusing on social media in an attempt to track down violent rhetoric.

But while D'Ambrosio faces 20 years in jail for threatening Obama, not a single Obama supporter who threatened to assassinate Mitt Romney during the 2012 election campaign was charged with any kind of felony.

As we?documented at the time, hundreds of Obama voters took to Twitter to make violent threats against Romney and his supporters with little response from the authorities.

The video below, taken from D'Ambrosio's YouTube channel, illustrates the amateur nature of his work and how his threats were more likely the product of a bored teenager rather than a terrorist mastermind.

Fucking scum. Just goes to show the level to which free speech has been suppressed in the U.S.A. I thank my lucky stars that my nation(Canada) isn't quite so screwed up yet. While it is a federal offense to make threats against a President in America, though I could do so with impunity here. In Canada the intended victim of a threat must be reasonably afraid that such threat could be carried out for it to be a crime. A non-specific threat of killing unnamed people by definition cannot reasonably be perceived by a specific person as being a credible threat.

I am surprised that Eminem hasn't been hunted down by the American Gestapo for his rap lyrics, guess he is just another one of the privileged one-percenters.

The kid is an idiot for even threatening it. This article sounds like your apologizing for his stupidity.
Talking about the threats to Romney, a candidate versus the threats to Obama, the actual President, is lame. 9988 jump off Mt Everest please Thank You.

Obama Can Kill Americans on U.S. Soil Without Due Process?

by Wendy McElroy

On March 5th, a headline in the left-leaning Mother Jones declared, ?Obama Administration Says President Can Use Lethal Force Against Americans on US Soil.? A letter from Attorney General Eric Holder to Republican Senator Rand Paul was the cause. (A screenshot of the full letter is here.) Rand had written to John Brennan, the current nominee for Director of the CIA, to ask whether the president can kill American citizens through the drone strike program on US soil without due process. Brennan requested Holder to address legal aspects of the question, which Obama and his administration have hitherto refused to answer. Holder's March 4 letter may have broken the silence because Rand threatened to filibuster Brennan's nomination if there was no response. (Indeed, Rand was filibustering as I wrote this article.)

Conservatives and libertarians are enraged by Holder's letter; liberals offer a mixed reaction. An admin at the left-leaning Daily Kos site, for example, blasts Mother Jones for inaccuracy. Others claim the Presidential power is nothing new and Holder's comments are unexceptional. Teasing out the truth means deconstructing the letter.

DECONSTRUCTING HOLDER

This letter was written and vetted with meticulous care. Holder did not misstate his position. The letter's vague and non-responsive nature is deliberate and its few specifics are revealing.

Holder opens with an assurance: ?[T]he US government has not carried out drone strikes in the United States and has no intention of doing so. As a policy matter moreover, we reject the use of military force where well-established law enforcement authorities in this country provide the best means for incapacitating a terrorist threat.? [All words in bold are emphasis added]

Obama did not even disclose the existence of a drone program on American soil until his hand was forced; the memos upon which the program's legal authority is based remain secret. This non-transparency makes it impossible to assess Obama's intentions, and reduces Holder's position to ?trust us.? The words ?as a policy matter? are significant because the use of military force instead of law enforcement is dismissed strictly as policy, not on grounds of law or the Constitution. Policies change constantly and often without notice. Moreover, given the extreme militarization of US law enforcement, complete with police drones, it is strange to reassure Americans that they would be killed by law enforcement and not the military. The distinction does obviate some legal questions, however. For example, it bypasses any lingering shred of the Posse Comitatus Act, which limits the power of a President to use the federal military to enforce law.

Holder continues. The administration has ?a long history of using the criminal justice system to incapacitate individuals located in our country who pose a threat to the United States and its interests abroad. Hundreds of individuals have been arrested and convicted of terrorism-related offenses in our federal courts.? Again, this is a policy statement. Moreover, various federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, have identified broad categories of law-abiding Americans as potential terrorists. Gun advocates, military veterans and strict Constitutionalists place consistently high on that list. By broadening the focus to include America's ?interests abroad,? Holder also signals that the Americans targeted need not be violent but merely a threat to US interests. It would be difficult to be more vague.

Holder now approaches the meat of the letter. ?The question you [Rand Paul] have posed is therefore entirely hypothetical, unlikely to occur, and one we hope no president will ever have to confront.? The statement is entirely incorrect. On February 20th, Paul asked whether Obama had ?the power to authorize lethal force, such as a drone strike, against a U.S. citizen on U.S. soil and without trial.? This is a specific, real world question; it asks an Attorney General to comment on a point of federal law, which he would be or has been instrumental in forging. Holder's dismissal of Rand's question as theoretical, however, allows him to rephrase it in a form he wishes to address.

Holder's non-answer? ?It is possible, I suppose, to imagine an extraordinary circumstance in which it would be necessary and appropriate under the Constitution and applicable laws of the United States for the President to authorize the military to use lethal force within the territory of the United States.? The rephrasing allows Holder to avoid the key issue of due process. Unfortunately, few people deny the authority of a President to kill violent Americans who threaten national security. But they balk at his signing secret orders to kill Americans without arrest or a trial. Due process is being reduced to Obama's signature on a piece of paper that will never be seen.

Nevertheless, Holder is at least and at last rendering a legal opinion. Yes, under ?extraordinary circumstances,? it is legal ?under the Constitution and applicable laws...for the President to authorize the military to use lethal force? on American soil.

It is impossible to know what constitutes ?extraordinary circumstances.? America has been in a state of war and militarization for almost 12 years since 9/11. It could refer to circumstances law enforcement cannot handle and, so, the military becomes necessary. In reality, ?extraordinary? will mean whatever the administration wishes. The national emergency could be nothing more than a grassroots refusal of Americans to voluntarily surrender guns. At that point, Obama could bypass both Congress and the Constitution by invoking the War Powers Act and declare martial law.

It is also not possible to decipher which ?applicable laws? are referenced. Perhaps Holder is appealing to ?War on Terror? laws such as the Authorization for Use of Military Force. The latter is a joint resolution passed by Congress in 2001 to authorize the President (then Bush) to use "necessary and appropriate force" against anyone who "planned, authorized, committed or aided" those responsible for 9/11. Indeed, the words used by Holder -- ?necessary and appropriate? ? echo the wording of the AUMF. It is equally unclear which part of the Constitution is referenced. Certainly, it is not the Bill of Rights. This means that neither Congress nor the public will know the circumstances and legal authority under which President believes it is appropriate to kill Americans on US soil.

The two specific examples of ?extraordinary circumstances? only confuse the issue further. He states, ?the president could conceivably have no choice but to authorize the military to use such force if necessary to protect the homeland in the circumstances like a catastrophic attack like the ones suffered on December 7, 1941, and September 11, 2001.?

The examples are the bombing or Pearl Harbor and 9/11. They are bizarre. For one thing, neither incident was perpetrated by Americans. Moreover, Holder endorses the Presidential execution of Americans after a crisis has occurred and not to prevent one. This differs sharply from the administration's justification for torture; namely, that information extracted in a ?timely manner? may prevent the loss of American lives.

The ?timely manner? aspect becomes all the more bizarre in light of Holder's concluding sentence: ?Were such an emergency to arise, I would examine the particular facts and circumstances before advising the president of the scope of his authority.? Pearl Harbor occurred literally out of the blue in the early morning hours; 9/11 was equally unexpected and swift. Does anyone believe Holder thinks there would be time to ?examine the particular facts and circumstances? of a surprise attack that hits like a lightning bolt? Does anyone believe Holder does not know what the administration's response would be down to the color of Obama's underwear?

CONCLUSION

The Obama administration is profoundly secretive and dishonest. Holder's letter is an exercise in obfuscation which, nevertheless, does assert the President's authority to kill Americans on US soil under undefined circumstances.

Certain other circumstances have been defined, however. Obama has already asserted the unprecedented power to kill Americans without due process when they are on foreign soil. Anwar al-Aulaqi was an American by birth and upbringing. He was executed by a drone attack in Yemen on September 30th, 2011. The grounds: suspicion of joining al Qaeda. No evidence of guilt has been presented because Obama has not released it.

It is also clear that the Obama administration is unwilling to explain the details or scope of the President's authority to kill Americans on US soil. At some point, when people consistently and persistently refuse to answer a question with ?no,? a reasonable person realizes the answer is ?yes.?

On March 5th, civil libertarian Glenn Greenwald summed up the situation. ?There is a theoretical framework being built.? It ?posits that the US Government has unlimited power, when it comes to any kind of threats it perceives, to take whatever action against them that it wants without any constraints or limitations of any kind.

The Obama Administration Prepares for War -- Against Us

The Obama administration is openly escalating its campaign against private gun ownership -- but is it also preparing to make war on the American population? According to Canadian educator and human rights activist Jim Garrow, the answer to that shocking question is ?yes.?

In a phone interview, Garrow told me that he received an early morning phone call from a man he identified as a retired high-ranking military officer. That man was upset because a young prot?g? had resigned his commission to protest the Obama administration?s efforts to reconstruct the military. That disillusioned young officer reportedly said that the administration?s litmus test for officers was a willingness to accept orders from the chain of command that would involve firing on U.S. citizens who refuse to surrender their firearms.

Garrow, who has not revealed the name of his source, is regarded as a man of some accomplishment. Through the Bethune Institute, he has established hundreds of schools throughout China. Three years ago, he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for rescuing baby girls who were targeted for infanticide because of the Chinese government?s one-child policy.? His warning shouldn?t be taken as gospel ? but it shouldn?t be dismissed as mere rumor, either.

Another Obama Inauguration as Amerika's Fascism Continues To Escalate

by Scott Lazarowitz

The Amerikan people have spoken: "We love and adore our Dear Leader. We want more fascism, more government control over our private lives, more theft of the workers and producers, more spying, more war, more drones, less freedom, more destruction and more death." I wonder if Barack Obama invited his half-brother George Obama to the inauguration ? remember George Obama? He?s the president?s half-brother who apparently lives in a shanty in Nairobi, the one President Obama doesn?t seem to have helped out very much. However, George defends Barack?s lack of being his "brother?s keeper," so I guess it doesn?t matter very much. (But it?s just more important that Barack Obama spend $50 million on his inauguration, that?s all.)

As all this is going on, Barack Obama?s comrade, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick says he wants to raise taxes even higher on the workers and producers of the Bay State, on top of their federal taxes that have just gone up (thanks to the selfish degenerates in Washington).

This new tax-theft scheme is intended to fund Patrick?s education and public transportation agendas and expanding of rail service. (Rail service hardly anyone will use, that is.)

In other words, Patrick might as well be saying, "Please let me siphon off more of your hard labor so that I can pay my union buddies in the state-construction racket to thank them for reelecting me and to further my own selfish political ambitions."

Nothing new here. "Good for you," as Elizabeth Warren might say.

Governor Patrick ? a genuine Michael Dukakis on steroids if there ever was one ? is surrounded on Beacon Hill by other self-centered degenerates, as top legislators give their non-productive staff members raises to add to their salaries they don?t deserve, some of which apparently in the 6-figures, and this on top of the state auditor?s staff who had been given a 16% raise. (The state auditor?s office is in charge of getting rid of "waste, fraud, and abuse.")

Gov. Patrick the fascist also just signed the bill to fingerprint "teachers, workers at child care centers, school bus drivers ?" and "everyone seeking to adopt children or become foster parents as well as employees of school departments who may have direct, unmonitored contact with children," with that information placed into a state police database and "forwarded to the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

Obviously, Patrick is no friend of civil liberties, due process or civil rights. He is a "liberal," after all.

And attempting to fill the shoes of his fellow anti-due process governor from New York, Patrick has filed a bill to further restrict gun ownership in Massachusetts, and to "require the state to send all relevant mental health records to a federal gun license registry," as well as "training teachers to recognize symptoms of mental illness in students."

But how about training students to recognize symptoms of mental illness in teachers? Hmmm? There?s a lot of that going around these days.

Too bad Muffy Healey, Patrick?s 2006 Republican opponent, lost that election.

Like Connecticut, Massachusetts already has the strictest gun control laws in the country. Connecticut?s strict gun laws did nothing to save those 27 victims at Sandy Hook. Neither will Gov. Patrick?s proposals or Obama?s proposals ? they will in fact cost lives, if history is any indication.

There are very few murders per year by use of those "military-style" assault rifles, as compared to pistols, shotguns, knives, hands and feet. But what the fascists want to do is further disarm the population and make people even more defenseless against murderers, wife-beaters, and rapists who use pistols, shotguns, knives, hands and feet.

Previous to Patrick?s newly introduced anti-private gun ownership proposals, the governor of New York had exemplified the purely irrational emotionalism of the gun control crowd, as he screamed and wailed to "end the madness" in his recent State of the State address. His emotionally-charged bill to make people defenseless was rushed through the legislature, just as was George W. Bush?s reactionary Patriot Act in 2001 and Obama?s Affordable Care Act in 2010.

That act of legislation ? now the law in New York ? requires mental health practitioners to report to the government those patients that the doctor thinks may be a danger to others. And Obama?s new proposed Executive Orders includes this: "Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes."

However, many of today?s physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists and counselors, especially the younger ones, were brought up in the modern, government-controlled schools, which have dumbed down the people and discourage critical thinking skills. The schools now label kids who act normally with an abundance of energy as "hyperactive," or label kids who question their authorities? dictates as "defiant" or suffering from "ADHD."

Or, some of the teachers and parents are afraid to discipline misbehaved kids or to give them a failing grade when they deserve one, in an attempt to avoid "hurting their feelings." So, many of the secondary schools and colleges are accepting or giving passing grades to total incompetents.

Therefore, I am not completely confident in the judgments of our modern and future doctors and mental health practitioners, quite frankly.

And after the school authorities label kids as "defiant," "autistic," or "psychotic," the authorities dish out the psychopharmaceutical drugs, such as Ritalin and SSRI anti-depressants, like candy.

I have heard several of the people being interviewed or speaking on panels regarding the Sandy Hook shootings who have stated that alleged shooter Adam Lanza "should have been medicated," given Lanza?s problems. However, it appears that Lanza may have been on some form of psychopharmaceutical drugs, and for many years, as asserted by the Lanzas? hairdresser and a former babysitter.

As has been the case in many mass shootings now, it?s the opposite of that ? they were medicated, but shouldn?t have been. Alleged Aurora theater shooter James Holmes is now thought to have been on medication, but the documents filed by police, who supposedly had seized pill bottles from Holmes?s home, had been heavily redacted and no specific name of drugs was disclosed.

Many of the school shootings in more recent years were committed by people on anti-depressant or anti-psychotic medication. Some may have been suffering from withdrawal symptoms after stopping their medication.

It is already known that some anti-depressant prescription drugs such as SSRIs and anti-psychotics can cause severely aggressive behavior. But, rather than addressing these prescription drugs, the chicken littles instead want to disarm innocent people and make them even more vulnerable, especially women. And the fascists want to seek out "mentally ill" people and either disarm them as well or perhaps even put them on psychiatric drugs. But who is to decide who is "mentally ill," and is there really "mental illness"?

But given the lack of good judgment of many health practitioners these days, requiring doctors and counselors to report possibly dangerous people to the government could itself be dangerous.

In fact, already in the U.K. the Cameron Regime has been having doctors report on patients who may be "vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism." The U.K. has also engaged in the disarming of the civilian population and thus causing a rise in violent crime there (contrary to the assertions of one CNN nudnik who shall remain nameless here).

Also in the U.K., cameras being placed in private homes, government-sponsored "parenting classes," the government monitoring all emails and website visits in the U.K.?

Yes, I know, that?s England and not America, but government-controlled education has dumbed down a lot of people in a lot of countries.

So why not have doctors reporting on patients, based on the doctors? own subjective biases, lack of critical thinking abilities and their ignorance as well?

As I have noted before, already in the U.S. we have a DHS and FBI wanting people and businesses to report on others as "suspicious" for what are really normal behaviors. But today, thanks to years of government-controlled education, behaviors that are really harmless are now viewed as "suspicious."

According to the FBI and DHS, some of those "suspicious" behaviors include: buying food in bulk amounts, believing in "individual liberty," distrusting "centralized federal authority," and "supporting political movements for autonomy."

For many ignoramuses now, "autonomy" and "independence" = "criminality" and "terrorism."

Being critical of the government is now being seen as "treasonous" or dangerous by some, even though it is our very own incompetent and corrupt government bureaucrats who have been acting criminally and treasonously in many ways, in my view. Just ask Bradley Manning, Brandon Raub, Susan Lindauer and William Binney.

But the psychiatric police state is here, and it won?t involve just mental health professionals but all health care practitioners whose treatment includes their asking patients for very personal information. Because of how our society has declined culturally, intellectually and socially, I am not surprised to have personally already seen doctors of an emotionally and intellectually immature character. Obviously, with Obama?s Soviet medicine, worse is yet to come. There just don?t seem to be very many Dr. Georges around anymore.

If you are not very familiar with your doctors or counselor, it would be wise not to share information with them about your political views, especially "anti-government" views, which many readers here happen to have, or whether or not you own a gun.

You see, thanks to the government-controlled schools and modern Amerikans? lack of critical thinking skills, we have historically-ignorant people who really have no idea what the real purpose of the 2nd Amendment is. A lot of anti-gun rights people (and some pro-gun rights ones as well) actually scoff at the idea that our own government could turn against us.

The cognitive dissonance is amazing! "Liberals" want the civilian population to be disarmed, but they want only government police and government military to be armed, and heavily armed at that! And this despite all the police brutality, the S.W.A.T team raids at the wrong addresses, and criminal behaviors committed by police and prosecutors all over Amerika, as we have seen on a daily basis in the news, on websites such as LRC and on YouTube. Many police are drugging up on steroids, and the military doctors are screwing up the soldiers with prescription drugs including those SSRI anti-depressants and stimulants.

As I have noted here, and in my articles about America?s descent and the coming civil unrest, yes, there have been moments in history in which the U.S. government has turned the guns against the people. And you think that all the atrocities committed by our military, the murdering of innocent civilians overseas, can?t happen here on the Rulers? command? All you have to do is see one article after another on our police state in Amerika, and see exactly what the people in charge are doing to our society.

So Obama is being inaugurated into a second term, and one can reasonably expect it to not be as wonderful as his first term was.

Here Are All The Children Murdered By Drone Strikes At The Hands Of Obama

Visualizing the illegal drone bombardment
Steve Watson

The president likes children right? He surrounds himself with them constantly to help bolster his political agenda.

When it comes to children who get in the way of his political agenda, however, it?s a different story.

Here is a visual of the hundreds of children that have been murdered in US drone strikes on Pakistan and Yemen, ordered by the president during his first term.

Their ages range from just 1 year old to 19 years of age:

The information was complied by The Bureau of Investigative Journalism, which estimates that there have been approximately 399 to 500 strikes to-date. The research group has found that around three thousand individuals have been killed by these drones, many of them innocent civilians. In Pakistan alone, 891 civilians have been killed by U.S. drones since 2004.

When a college student recently attempted to write a tweet for every drone strike the US has carried out in the last decade, he gave up after 12 hours of constant tweeting, reaching only the year 2010, when the attacks expanded exponentially.

Pakistan?s President Asif Ali Zardari told US ambassador Richard Olson today that drone attacks are not only violation of Pakistan's sovereignty but are counter productive and their legality is questionable.

Yesterday, another seven people were killed in Yemen in a drone strike. It was the fourth strike in five days, marking what senior officials have called a significant escalation in the U.S.-Yemeni campaign against ?Al Qaeda affiliated militants?.

A further strike later the same day, which went relatively unreported by the mainstream Western media, killed a further nine people. Two of those killed were children, according to?witnesses.

The CIA and Obama administration officials have declined to comment on the strikes.

Yemeni Human Rights Minister Hooria Mashhour this week lambasted the strategy, criticized the lack of concern over civilian deaths, and said all Yemeni citizens deserve the right to a fair trial, rather than blanket assassination.

Yemeni President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi, however, praised the operations when he visited Washington in September.

"They pinpoint the target and have zero margin of error, if you know what target you're aiming at," Hadi said at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

Again, those dead children are:

37 Statistics Which Show How Four Years Of Obama Have Wrecked The U.S. Economy

by Michael Snyder

The mainstream media covered the inauguration of Barack Obama with breathless anticipation on Monday, but should we really be celebrating another four years of Obama?? The truth is that the first four years of Obama were an absolute train wreck for the U.S. economy.? Over the past four years, the percentage of working age Americans with a job has fallen, median household income has declined by more than $4000, poverty in the U.S. has absolutely exploded and our national debt has ballooned to ridiculous proportions.? Of course all of the blame for the nightmarish performance of the economy should not go to Obama alone.? Certainly much of what we are experiencing today is the direct result of decades of very foolish decisions by Congress and previous presidential administrations.? And of course the Federal Reserve has more influence over the economy than anyone else does.? But Barack Obama steadfastly refuses to criticize anything that the Federal Reserve has done and he even nominated Ben Bernanke for another term as Fed Chairman despite his horrific track record of failure, so at a minimum Barack Obama must be considered to be complicit in the Fed's very foolish policies.? Despite what the Obama administration tells us, the U.S. economy has been in decline for a very long time, and that decline has accelerated in many ways over the past four years.? Just consider the statistics that I have compiled below. ?The following are 37 statistics which show how four years of Obama have wrecked the U.S. economy...

1. During Obama's first term, the number of Americans on food stamps increased by an average of about 11,000 per day.

2. At the beginning of the Obama era, 32 million Americans were on food stamps.? Today, more than 47 million Americans are on food stamps.

3. According to one calculation, the number of Americans on food stamps now exceeds the combined populations of "Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming."

4. The number of Americans receiving money directly from the federal government each month has grown from 94 million in the year 2000 to more than 128 million today.

5. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 146 million Americans are either "poor" or "low income" at this point.

6. The unemployment rate in the United States is exactly where it was (7.8 percent) when Barack Obama first entered the White House in January 2009.

7. When Barack Obama first entered the White House, 60.6 percent of all working age Americans had a job.? Today, only 58.6 percent of all working age Americans have a job.

8. During the first four years of Obama, the number of Americans "not in the labor force" soared by an astounding 8,332,000.? That far exceeds any previous four year total.

9. During Obama's first term, the number of Americans collecting federal disability insurance rose by more than 18 percent.

10. The Obama years have been absolutely devastating for small businesses in America.? According to economist Tim Kane, the following is how the number of startup jobs per 1000 Americans breaks down by presidential administration...

Bush Sr.: 11.3

Clinton: 11.2

Bush Jr.: 10.8

Obama: 7.8

11. Median household income in America has fallen for four consecutive years.? Overall, it has declined by over $4000 during that time span.

12. The economy is not producing nearly enough jobs for the hordes of young people now entering the workforce.? Approximately 53 percent of all U.S. college graduates under the age of 25 were either unemployed or underemployed in 2011.

13. According to a report from the National Employment Law Project, 58 percent of the jobs that have been created since the end of the recession have been low paying jobs.

14. Back in 2007, about 28 percent of all working families were considered to be among "the working poor".? Today, that number is up to 32 percent even though our politicians tell us that the economy is supposedly recovering.

15. According to the Center for Economic and Policy Research, only 24.6 percent of all of the jobs in the United States are "good jobs" at this point.

16. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the middle class is taking home a smaller share of the overall income pie than has ever been recorded before.

17. According to the Economic Policy Institute, the United States is losing half a million jobs to China every single year.

18. The United States has fallen in the global economic competitiveness rankings compiled by the World Economic Forum for four years in a row.

19. According to the World Bank, U.S. GDP accounted for 31.8 percent of all global economic activity in 2001.? That number declined steadily over the course of the next decade and was only at 21.6 percent in 2011.

20. The United States actually has plenty of oil and we should not have to import oil from the Middle East.? We need to drill for more oil, but Obama has been very hesitant to do that.? Under Bill Clinton, the number of drilling permits approved rose by 58 percent.? Under George W. Bush, the number of drilling permits approved rose by 116 percent.? Under Barack Obama, the number of drilling permits approved actually decreased by 36 percent.

21. When Barack Obama took office, the average price of a gallon of gasoline was $1.84.? Today, the average price of a gallon of gasoline is $3.26.

22. Under Barack Obama, the United States has lost more than 300,000 education jobs.

23. For the first time ever, more than a million public school students in the United States are homeless.? That number has risen by 57 percent since the 2006-2007 school year.

24. Families that have a head of household under the age of 30 now have a poverty rate of 37 percent.

25. More than three times as many new homes were sold in the United States in 2005 as were sold in 2012.

26. Electricity bills in the United States have risen faster than the overall rate of inflation for five years in a row.

27. Health insurance costs have risen by 29 percent since Barack Obama became president.

28. Today, 77 percent of all Americans live paycheck to paycheck at least part of the time.

29. It is being projected that Obamacare will add 16 million more Americans to the Medicaid rolls.

30. The total amount of money that the federal government gives directly to the American people has grown by 32 percent since Barack Obama became president.

31. The Obama administration has been spending money on some of the most insane things imaginable.? For example, in 2011 the Obama administration spent $592,527 on a study that sought to figure out once and for all why chimpanzees throw poop.

32. U.S. taxpayers spend more than 20 times as much on the Obamas as British taxpayers spend on the royal family.

33. The U.S. government has run a budget deficit of well over a trillion dollars every single year under Barack Obama.

34. When Barack Obama was first elected, the U.S. debt to GDP ratio was under 70 percent.? Today, it is up to 103 percent.

35. During Obama's first term, the federal government accumulated more debt than it did under the first 42 U.S presidents combined.

36. As I wrote about yesterday, when you break it down the amount of new debt accumulated by the U.S. government during Obama's first term comes to approximately $50,521 for every single household in the United States.? Are you ready to contribute your share?

37. If you started paying off just the new debt that the U.S. has accumulated during the Obama administration at the rate of one dollar per second, it would take more than 184,000 years to pay it off.

But despite all of these numbers, the mainstream media and the left just continue to shower Barack Obama with worship and praise.? Newsweek recently heralded Obama's second term as "The Second Coming", and?at Obama's pre-inauguration church service Reverand Ronald Braxton openly compared Obama to Moses...

At Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church, Braxton reportedly crafted his speech around Obama's personal political slogan: "Forward!"

Obama, said Braxton, was just like Moses facing the Red Sea: "forward is the only option ... The people couldn't turn around. The only thing that they could do was to go forward." Obama, said Braxton, would have to overcome all obstacles -- like opposition from Republicans, presumably, or the bounds of the Constitution. Braxton continued, "Mr. President, stand on the rock," citing to Moses standing on Mount Horeb as his people camped outside the land of Israel.

But it wasn't enough to compare Obama with the founder of Judaism and the prophet of the Bible. Braxton added that Obama's opponents were like the Biblical enemies of Moses, and that Obama would have to enter the battle because "sometimes enemies insist on doing it the hard way."

So what do you think the next four years of Obama will bring?

If Obama Is Opposed To Guns, Why Did His Administration Just Purchase 1.6 Billion Rounds Of Ammunition?

by Mike Adams

?An evil exists that threatens every man, woman and child of this great nation. We must take steps to ensure our domestic security and protect our homeland.? ? Adolf Hitler, 1922.

In the aftermath of the recent Sandy Hook shooting, Obama and his cohorts are screaming about how they all despise guns and ammo. Guns are the problem in America today, we?ve been told from every corner of the media, and so the only solution is to get rid of all the guns.

But not exactly. There?s one organization in America that?s loading up on masses of assault rifles and enough ammunition to run a 10-year shooting war. That organization is, of course, the U.S. federal government and its Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which has purchased a total of?1.6 billion rounds of ammunition to be used?domestically, inside the United States.

It begs the question: Why does the Department of Homeland Security ? named after Hitler?s ?Office of Fatherland Security? ? need 1.6 billion rounds of ammo?

Obama?s government stockpiles weapons of mass destruction

The DHS began all this in April of this year, with the purchase of?450 million rounds of hollow point .40 caliber ammunition. This is significant for two reasons:

1) DHS does not fight wars with foreign nations. It?s entire theater of operations is on U.S. soil, dealing solely with the American people.

2) Hollow point?ammunition is banned by the Geneva convention and is not used by the U.S. military. This ammunition can only be used domestically, in the United States, against U.S. targets or people.

Along with these 450 million rounds of ammunition, DHS also purchased?$400,000 worth of radiation protection pills and thousands of?bullet-proof roadside checkpoint booths. Is it expecting a radiological event? (Or perhaps planning one?)

These 450 million rounds of ammo, Natural News calculated, is enough to wage a?7-year war with the American people.

Obama?s government stockpiling millions of rounds of ammo to arm the DHS and TSA

You can see the original federal purchase document requesting all this ammunition at:

http://www.naturalnews.com/files/DHS_ammo_buy.pdf

The numbers in the document, by the way, are in?thousands.

In it, you?ll discover that the U.S.?government has also purchased all the following ammunition?in addition to the 450 million rounds of .40 hollow point ?anti-personnel? ammo:

? Over one million rounds of hollow-point .223 rifle ammo
? Over half a million rounds of non-hollow-point .223 rifle ammo
? 220,000 rounds of 12 gauge shotgun #7 ammo (target ammo)
? Over 200,000 rounds of 12 gauge shotgun #00 buckshot ammo (tactical anti-personnel ammo)
? 66,000 rounds of 12 gauge shotgun slugs (tactical anti-personnel, anti-vehicle rounds)
? Over two million rounds of hollow-point .357 Sig JPH (hollow-point) pistol ammo (anti-personnel)
? Over four million rounds of .40 S&W JPH (hollow-point) pistol ammo (anti-personnel)
? Over 60,000 rounds of .308 match grade anti-personnel sniper rounds (BTHP)
? Plus, hundreds of thousands of additional rounds of .38 special, .45 auto, 9mm, 7.62?39 (AK rifle) ammo, and others.

DHS then buys another 750 million rounds of anti-personnel ammunition

A few months after buying the 450+ million rounds of ammo to be stockpiled by Obama?s government in the United States, the DHS then went on to purchase?another 750 million rounds of ammunition.

Additional contracts were added after that, bringing the grand total of government ammo purchases in 2012 to?1.6 billion rounds of ammunition. That?s over five bullets for every American man, woman and child. It also includes long-range sniper rounds.

By comparison, a citizen is considered to be a stockpiling ?terrorist? prepper if they own just 1,000 rounds of ammo. The government, however, can purchase?billions and the mainstream media doesn?t even question it.

Where is all this ammunition going? It?s being?stockpiled by the federal government, awaiting some future event during which it will apparently be ?activated.? Why else would you stockpile something if you don?t anticipate needing to use it someday?

During all this, Obama and his cohorts in Washington are loudly insisting that American citizens have no right to purchase firearms or ammunition, and that new laws will soon be enacted to make sure you cannot do what the government does: stockpile weapons and ammo.

Obama has armed security personnel for self defense, but YOU can?t have self defense

The United States of America was founded on the idea that an?armed citizenry is the only thing that can be trusted to keep government honest, but that idea has now been turned upside down. The new message today is that an?armed government is the only thing that can be trusted, and that individual citizens are all potential terrorists and mass murderers.

While Obama, Feinstein, Bloomberg and others are calling for citizens to give up their self defense tools, those very same people?all have armed bodyguards to provide for their own self defense. Obama in particular has an entire group of men ? the U.S. Secret Service ? who are most definitely armed to the teeth and wielding full-auto weapons.

Will Obama now call for his own Secret Service men to give up their guns and ammunition? Will Bloomberg give up his armed police escorts and security personnel? Will the White House be completely disarmed and have a ?Gun Free Zone? sign placed outside the White House lawn?

Of course not. What Obama, Bloomberg, Schumer, Feinstein and all these tyrants practice is?a cynical double standard. They want YOU to give up all your guns and rights, but THEY refuse to do so. It?s okay for them to be armed, but not you. You can?t be trusted because you?re just a hard-working American taxpayer / slave. Only the government elite can be trusted with guns, you see, because government is so incredibly honest, ethical and trustworthy. And anyone who questions that is obviously a terrorist.

That?s the new insanity in Washington D.C. and apparently across the mainstream media where twits like Piers Morgan smear our TV screens with imbecilic profanity as they rant and rave about American citizens giving up all their guns while the government stockpiles masses of assault rifles and billions of rounds of ammunition.

Piers Morgan, in case you haven?t figure it out, is precisely the kind of traitorous tory America?s founding fathers would have hanged from a tree in 1776. That this frothing talking moron, a British subject, even sets foot in?America today and calls for the mass disarmament of the American people is tantamount to an act of deliberate sabotage of the very nation that already defeated the British in one war. Morgan is an enemy of America and a traitor to humanity.

The picture is now becoming clear

The government plan for the use of all these guns and ammunition is now becoming clear. It is a plan to engineer a civil war. Here?s how it works:

Step 1) Obama stockpiles billions of rounds of ammunition, assault rifles, bullet-proof checkpoint booths and sniper rounds for the government while training up a whole new army of psychopathic sex predators known as the TSA.

Step 2) Mass shootings of children are either staged or encouraged to make sure they happen with rising frequency. (Aurora, Sandy Hook, etc.). Schools are advertised as ?Gun Free Zone? to make sure mass shooters doped up on psychiatric drugs and hypnotic video games know exactly where to go to achieve the highest body count, unopposed by any firearms.

Step 3) When the shootings take place, the media jumps on board the emotional bandwagon and parades dead children in front of the public to the point of?emotional extortion. The public then leaps to the delusion that gun confiscation will be great for everyone!

Step 4) The government then?stages a radiological false flag event in a major U.S. city while framing a group of patriots, veterans or ?preppers? as patsies.

Step 5) This event, which kills 1+ million people, then provides the pretext to declare martial law, suspend the entire Bill of Rights and roll out TSA checkpoints nationwide. TSA agents, who have already proven themselves to be the most masochistic, sick-minded individuals working in government today, are then handed .40 caliber pistols and rifles (yes, they make rifles that shoot .40 pistol ammo) to start waging a shooting war against the American people.

Step 6) Now it?s all-out?civil war: Americans shoot each other up, causing huge casualties on both sides. Much of the weapons and ammo stockpiled by American preppers and patriots is used up in this conflict, and that?s exactly the point.

Step 7) Once the civil war has torn America apart, the United Nations lands UN ?peacekeeping? troops to take command and occupy America. This will be accompanied by strict ?gun control? mandates and constant surveillance of the American people with facial recognition cameras, audio-recording street lamps in the cities, and airborne drones watching from the sky.

Obama is given another Nobel peace prize ? mission accomplished! ? for enabling the UN takeover of America. The globalists celebrate.

Why we need the Second Amendment for our own survival

Events like Sandy Hook, you see, are all part of?the scripted escalation of violence in America, culminating in the government?s declaration of war against citizens. This is precisely why we need the Second Amendment:

?The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms,? said?Thomas Jefferson, ??is to protect themselves against tyranny in government.?

The only way America has a chance to halt the violence, defend the Constitution and restore the Republic is to?stay armed and stay vigilant. Because let?s be clear: the Obama administration is a criminal operation. The signing of the NDAA, all by itself, should have been clear grounds for not just impeachment, but prosecution for treason.

We are dealing with an out-of-control gang of tyrants in the White House, in DHS and TSA. There are some good men and women inside the FBI, the Pentagon and even the CIA, believe it or not. Those men and women are just as frustrated with what?s happening inside the White House as we all are, and they are ready and willing to defend America against criminal traitors like Eric Holder, for example. Once this all starts to unfold, you will see the federal government having a difficult time keeping all its own people in line. There will be?internal fracturing in the federal chain of command, and there may even be break-out groups that seek to overthrow the traitors and restore basic liberties in America.

Six undeniable facts

How all this actually plays out in anyone?s guess, but there are several points I can assure you are very real:

Fact #1) The government is arming to the teeth, stockpiling more than five rounds of ammunition for every American man, woman and child.

Fact #2) The American people are also arming to the teeth, buying up millions of firearms and billions of rounds of ammunition at a record pace.

Fact #3) The Obama criminals have become arrogant and stupid, thinking they can pull off anything. They will over-estimate their power and soon overstep their bounds in trying to crush the remaining liberties of the American people. There will be a huge reactionary counter-effort.

Fact #4) There are good people still within the government and especially the military who are loyal to the Constitution and despise the communist-influenced gang that now occupies the White House.

Fact #5) The government can and will stage false flag attacks to blame its enemies and centralize power. This is true throughout human history.

Fact #6) Something much larger than Sandy Hook is in the planning stages, I believe. Look for a radiological attack of some sort, such as a dirty bomb being set off in a major U.S. city by a rogue group working under Obama. This will be used to terrorize Americans and blame patriots, unleashing an all-out war against individual liberty in America.

Obama Sends More Drones, Marines to Libya, But Did They Ever Leave?

Apparently, there is nothing so permanent as a temporary US war
by John Glaser

The Obama administration has ordered military reinforcements to Libya following the attack on the US consulate building this week, but the truth is drones had never left Libya?s skies and US Marines have been carrying out missions on the ground since the end of NATO?s war there last year.

The US suspects al-Qaeda affiliates were involved in starting the attack on the US consulate in Libya, which killed the American ambassador and three others, and has not only started an FBI investigation into the incident, but has ordered more drones to surveil Libya, as well as up to 50 additional US Marines and US warships equipped with Tomahawk missiles off the northern coast.

But the Defense Department told Wired?s Danger Room that the drones never left, despite the fact that the NATO air war in Libya came to an end almost a year ago.

?Yes, we have been flying CAPs [combat air patrols] since the war ended,? said Army Lt. Col. Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman. These have apparently been done for surveillance purposes with the consent of the new Libyan government.

Similarly, the 50 additional US Marines being sent to Libya won?t exactly be new. One of the four Americans killed in this week?s consulate attack told ABC News last month he was working with the State Department on an intelligence mission to find some of the hoards of weapons strewn about the country following the collapse of Muammar Gadhafi?s regime.

The late economist Milton Friedman was famous for saying that there is nothing so permanent as a government temporary program. He was referring to domestic policies and bureaucracies, but the same principle applies here. When the US government engages in military action abroad, the tendency is for such military engagements to remain open-ended, in keeping with America?s long history of spreading its military across the entire globe.

Obama Lists His Five Criteria for Death by Drone

by Joe Wolverton, II

President Obama is tearing the shroud of secrecy off his once hush-hush death-by-drone program.

From his interview with Ben Swann, host of Fox 19's?Reality Check, to his sit-down with CNN's chief White House correspondent Jessica Yellin, the kill-list compiler-in-chief is gradually exposing details of the principles he purportedly follows before targeting someone for assassination.

The president may assume that there is little reason to try hiding something that is being publicized daily?-- except in the mainstream media. In fairness, the New York Times has done fine work chronicling the expansion of the use of drones, as well as their involvement in the killing of innocents overseas caught in the blast zone of missiles aimed at alleged militants.

An exception to the official policy of silence on the matter of the death-by-drone program being carried out by the White House and the CIA was made earlier this year. In April the White House's top counterterrorism advisor, John Brennan, admitted for the first time publicly to the government's significant reliance on drones in prosecuting the War on Terror. Brennan said that the remote control killing of suspects on foreign soil who have been charged with no crime whatsoever, is "in full accordance with the law."

Brennan also said the United States "respects national sovereignty and international law."

Speaking with Margaret Sanger at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), Brennan defended the president's drone program. "So long as AQAP [al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula] seeks to implement its murderous agenda, we will be a close partner with Yemen in meeting this common threat," he said.

Later in the interview, Brennan said that the president deploys drones to target only "militants" with designs on attacking the United States or its allies abroad. He admitted that American intelligence agents provide tactical support to Yemeni armed forces battling al-Qaeda on the ground.

When asked about the collateral deaths of innocent civilians during these attacks, Brennan responded that American drone pilots "make every effort" to avoid killing innocents. Said Brennan:

Today I'd simply say that all our CT [counterterrorism] efforts in Yemen are conducted in concert with the Yemeni government. When direct action is taken, every effort is made to avoid any civilian casualty. And contrary to conventional wisdom, we see little evidence that these actions are generating widespread anti-American sentiment or recruits for AQAP. In fact, we see the opposite; our Yemeni partners are more eager to work with us. Yemenese citizens who have been freed from the hellish grip of AQAP are more eager, not less, to work with the Yemeni government. In short, targeted strikes against the most senior and most dangerous AQAP terrorists are not the problem; they are part of the solution.

Describing the disregard for innocent human life as part of a "solution" is eerily reminiscent of similar statements made by despicable tyrants in the recent past.

The death toll of innocent people killed by the United States in the Middle East continues to increase. As?The New American reported on September 6, 29 Yemenis were killed by U.S. drones in one week. Many of these had not even tenuous ties to terrorists and were killed simply because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

When asked by CNN what process he uses to make the life or death decisions to deploy the drones to kill a "militant," President Obama listed five criteria:

? First, "It has to be a target that is authorized by our laws."

? Second, "It has to be a threat that is serious and not speculative."

? Third, "It has to be a situation in which we can't capture the individual before they move forward on some sort of operational plot against the United States."

? Fourth, "We've got to make sure that in whatever operations we conduct, we are very careful about avoiding civilian casualties."

? And fifth, "That while there is a legal justification for us to try and stop [American citizens] from carrying out plots ... they are subject to the protections of the Constitution and due process."

Examining this list reveals that in none of the deaths authorized by the president has any one of these criteria been met.

Let's take as a test case the remote-control murder of a young American in Yemen. What law authorized the murder of 16-year-old Abdulrahaman al-Awlaki, son of the American cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who was also killed by Hellfire missiles fired by a Predator drone?

Neither man (both of whom were Americans) was ever charged with a crime or permitted to answer for his alleged crimes before an impartial judge -- a violation of the fifth point provided by the president.

What threat did the younger al-Awlaki pose to the United States? The Obama administration has never informed the country of any wrongdoing by this teenager other than being related to a man who posted anti-American videos on the Internet that allegedly influenced others to commit crimes. This violates the president's first criterion.

Number three above was certainly ignored by the president since no known attempt was ever made to capture this young man and take him into U.S. custody. Of course, that could be because he might actually have ended up in a court of law if he had been apprehended; and President Obama, a former lawyer, knows that trials can be long, messy, and unpredictable. It is much quicker and cleaner just to launch a missile and kill someone without going through the hassle of due process.

Finally, with regard to civilian casualties, not even the White House claims that Abdulraham al-Awlaki was a member of al-Qaeda or any associated organization. He was quite literally killed for being associated with one who was allegedly associated with those allegedly associated with al-Qaeda.

As Tom Junod wrote in Esquire:

But Abdulrahman al-Awlaki wasn't on an American kill list. Nor was he a member of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Nor was he "an inspiration," as his father styled himself, for those determined to draw American blood; nor had he gone "operational," as American authorities said his father had, in drawing up plots against Americans and American interests.

He was a boy who hadn't seen his father in two years, since his father had gone into hiding. He was a boy who knew his father was on an American kill list and who [sneaked] out of his family's home in the early morning hours of September 4, 2011, to try to find him.

Furthermore, the young man was killed while eating dinner on the side of the road in the company of friends and extended family. So much for the limiting of "civilian" collateral damage. Not only was the target of the nighttime drone attack a civilian, but so were all the boys sitting with him when two American missiles lit up the area and killed them all.

Finally, when Yellin asked Obama if he personally approves the targets of the drone strikes, the president answered, "You know, I can't get too deeply into how these things work, but as I said as commander in chief ultimately I'm responsible for the process that we've set up to make sure that folks who are out to kill Americans, that we are able to disable them before they carry out their plans."

If only all advocates of constitutional due process could nonviolently through the electoral process disable those of both parties -- whether in office or seeking to be elected-- from carrying out their plans to destroy the our constitutionally protected liberty.

Obama Administration to Review Clarence Aaron Commutation Request

by Phillip Smith

The Obama administration is seeking a fresh review of Clarence Aaron's request for commutation of his cocaine trafficking sentence, the Washington Post reported Wednesday. Aaron, a first-offender, was sentenced to three life terms in 1993 for his minor role in a cocaine deal. He has since become a poster child for sentencing reform and, more recently, for pardons and commutation reform.

The Justice Department will also undertake a broader review of recommendations for presidential pardons. Under scrutiny will be the Office of the Pardon Attorney, which has been under increasing criticism since the Post and Pro Publica published stories in December about racial disparities in the process and more stories in May about Clarence Aaron's ordeal.

The December stories found that whites were four times more likely to win pardons and commutations than blacks, while the stories on Aaron showed that he was denied a commutation in 2008 despite having the support of the prosecutors' office that tried him and the judge who sentenced him, after the pardon attorney didn't tell the White House about the support.

Aaron filed a new commutation request in 2011, and that is pending. Since the Washington Post/Pro Publica articles came out, his case has been taken up prominent figures, including members of Congress, law professors, and civil rights advocates. Many of those supporters have called for a broader investigation into the pardon process.

The presidential power to pardon or commute as been gradually atrophying even as prisoner numbers climbed in recent years. President Bill Clinton pardoned nearly 400 people, while President George W. Bush pardoned only 189. So far, President Obama has pardoned only 22 people and commuted the sentence of just one.

Obama is Wrong about the Hoover Dam

Douglas French

In his famous "you didn't build it" speech, President Obama cited the Internet, fire departments, the GI Bill, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Hoover Dam as examples of government action that helps business owners.

Each needs addressing, but let's start with the Hoover Dam.

The president is riffing off of Rachel Maddow's MSNBC commercial in which the TV pundit dressed in her best black T-shirt and hoodie, points up at Hoover Dam and says words to the effect that the dam reminds us that an individual can't build a dam ? or a company, for that matter. It takes a country to build projects of this magnitude.

Having a soft spot for environmentalism, it's surprising Maddow embraces the concrete monster. At the time, Hoover described the dam as ?the greatest engineering work of its character attempted by the hand of man.?

The massive structure cost $49 million (or $736 million in inflation-adjusted dollars) and measures over 726 feet in height and more than 1,200 feet in length. It took five years and 4,360,000 cubic yards of concrete to build, and was finished two years ahead of schedule. About 16,000 people worked on constructing the dam, with over 100 losing their lives in the process.

There's nothing new about government throwing taxpayer money around to create jobs. The Romans constructed aqueducts in small towns, industrial sites and large cities from France to Istanbul.

To construct the aqueduct of Segovia, Spain, Romans stacked massive bricklike granite blocks into a structure that reached a height of over 93 feet. Although no one knows for sure, it?s estimated that the aqueduct was constructed sometime during the reign of either Emperor Vespasian or Nerva to transport water from the Fuente Fria River over 10 miles from the city. The aqueduct has 167 arches and reaches its height at the Plaza del Azoguejo.

The impressive Roman structure only serves to attract tourists to the city of 55,000 today. When I visited two years ago, our guide, Jerry, told us Segovia?s population did not warrant such an expenditure when it was built. ?The Romans primarily built the aqueduct as a show of power.?

Just as the Keynesian policies of the New Deal tried to cheat the laws of economics, government?s damming of the Colorado River attempted to cheat Mother Nature by bringing water to the desert southwest ? water that just isn?t and never was there.

The great Western explorer John Wesley Powell was booed out of the room when he told the Irrigation Congress, ?Gentlemen, you are piling up a heritage of conflict and litigation over water rights, for there is not sufficient water to supply the land.?

But 75 years ago, when the dam was nearly completed, FDR proclaimed during his dedication speech that millions of present and future residents of the Southwest could count on ?a just, safe and permanent system of water rights.? The turbulent Colorado River that vacillated between droughts and floods would be tamed and become ?a great national possession,? and be counted on for irrigation to support a human migration seeking mild winters and new opportunities.

?The nation took him at his word,? writes Michael Hiltzik, author of Colossus: Hoover Dam and the Making of the American Century. ?Since that dedication year, the population of the seven states of the basin has swelled by about 45 million. Much of this growth has been fueled by the dam and its precious bounties of water and electrical power.?

As Hiltzik points out, the dam?s water promise gunned the growth of Southern California cities and attracted farmers to the West to grow water-intensive crops like cotton, despite the lack of normal rainfall required to support this kind of agriculture.

Just as government stimulus programs and artificially low interest rates that promise to spur growth and make up for the lack of private investment never work, Hoover?s promise that his dam would, as Hiltzik writes, ?provide all the water their states could conceivably need to fulfill their dreams of irrigation, industrial development and urban growth? is literally drying up.

The water level at Lake Mead is down nearly 100 feet from its high water mark, revealing a white ?bathtub ring.? According to Wikipedia, the lake's water volume is just slightly half the amount the lake could hold at its maximum.

Now that millions have migrated to the Southwest and private industry has invested millions of dollars, Hoover's and FDR?s promises have confined those living and doing business in the West ?in the straitjacket of an ever-intensifying water shortage,? notes Hiltzik. And while Interior Secretary Gale Norton claimed to have stilled the ?conflict on the river? back in 2003 with the signing of two dozen agreements transferring water rights between various Indian tribes, cities and governments, the battle for water will rage on. The supply will never catch up with the demand.

After the 10-year drought, an additional intake pipeline into the diminishing Lake Mead is being installed. Almost 90% of the drinking water for Las Vegas comes from the lake. The new intake pipeline, officially known as Intake No. 3, ?will reach deeper into the reservoir to protect the valley?s water supply, should the lake shrink low enough to shut down one of the two shallower straws,? reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The project targets 2014 for completion. "This new intake tunnel is 3 miles under Lake Mead, and then there is a tap of the lake about 3 miles out. I like to say it's as if you've got your bathtub full of water, and now we are putting the drain into it while it's full," says Vegas Tunnel Constructors (VTC) Vice President of Operations Jim McDonald.

The contract amount started at $447 million, but the cost has risen by over $100 million since the project began. The tunnel, after excavated for the pipeline, unexpectedly filled with water three times in the project's first six months.

Last month, excavation was delayed again when a VTC worker was killed 600 feet below ground when one of the tunnel segments was jarred loose, and pressurized grout was discharged, striking two of the workers.

Those in government never learn. They can?t print prosperity, and more water won?t magically appear if they dam a river. While the man on the street believes government infallible, politicians and bureaucrats cannot calculate the economic profits and losses of government interventions. Governments will forever fight over scarce water, and private use is increasingly being restricted by local ordinances.

?The spending for nonproductive public works, for the bureaucracy and for the Army led to excessive taxation, inflation and the ruin of the essential middle class and its leaders,? H.J. Haskell wrote in his book The New Deal in Old Rome, destroying the men French historian Leon Homo called ?the general staff of civilization.?

The New Deal dam project that Obama and Maddow are so proud of provided a few thousand jobs 80 years ago, but has spurred migration, farming and development that is likely unsustainable and may ultimately be, like the aqueduct in Segovia, just a giant tourist attraction. This is something future tourist guides will call "an example of American government power."
