And that's nothing than a normal healthy movement. If it didn't go down, i would be more afraid it was a buuble, but this ?rash' makes me see gold very positive again. Just like silver. Agreed, I'm hoping it gets cheaper as I see it as a buying opportunity.

U.S. Mideast policy in a single phrase

by Glenn Greenwald

The CIA's spokesman at The?Washington?Post, columnist David?Ignatius, recently announced that the glorifying term "Arab Spring" is no longer being used by senior intelligence officials to describe democratic revolutions in the Middle East.??It has been replaced by the more "neutral" term "Arab transition,"?which, as Ignatius put it, "conveys the essential truth that nobody can predict just where this upheaval is heading."? Note that what was until very recently celebrated in American media circles as a joyous, inspirational awakening of?"democratic birth and freedom" has now been downgraded to an "upheaval" whose outcome may be odious and threatening.

That's not surprising.? As?I've written about several times, public opinion in those nations is so strongly opposed to the policies the?U.S. has long demanded -- and is quite hostile (more so than ever) to the?U.S. itself and especially Israel -- that allowing any form of democracy would necessarily be adverse to American and Israeli interests in that region?(at least as those two nations have long perceived of their "interests").? That's precisely why the U.S. worked so hard and expended so many resources for decades to ensure that brutal dictators ruled those nations and suppressed public opinion to the point of complete irrelevance (behavior which, predictably and understandably, exacerbated anti-American sentiments among the populace).

Operation in Our Sites: Feds Arrest 19-Year-Old Streaming Site Admin

by Enigmax

A man has been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement?s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations agents in connection with streaming live sporting events over the Internet. The 19-year-old allegedly ran HQ-Streams.com and HQ-Streams.net, domains that were previously seized by ICE as part of Operation in Our Sites.

In early February 2011, U.S. authorities began the third round of Operation in Our Sites, the process which takes allegedly copyright-infringing sites offline by taking possession of their domain names.

This wave of seizures, which took place with the Super Bowl just around the corner, netted 10 domains including Atdhe.net, ChannelSurfing.net, HQ-Streams.com, HQ-Streams.net, Firstrow.net, Ilemi.com, Ilemi.net, Iilemi.com, and RojaDirecta.org.

Now the individual behind two of the domains, HQ-Streams.com and HQ-Streams.net, has not only lost his domains but now potentially faces losing his freedom.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement?s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) have confirmed their agents arrested a New York man this week on suspicion of illegally streaming copyrighted sports events over the Internet.

Mohamed Ali, 19, of Hollis, N.Y., was taken into custody at his home in Queens and charged with a single count of criminal copyright infringement.

?Today?s arrest sends a clear message to website operators who mistakenly believe it?s worth the risk to take copyrighted programming and portray it as their own,? said ICE Director John Morton.

?Protecting legitimate business interests are a priority for HSI, the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center and our law enforcement partners. We are dedicated to protecting the jobs, the income and the tax revenue that disappear when organized criminals traffic in stolen content for their own profit.?

According to the criminal complaint, between February 2010 to January 2011 Ali used his domains to show events from the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), the Ultimate Fighting Championship and (UFC) and other boxing events.

ICE says that Ali charged $6, $12 and up to $25 to access links which would allow visitors to watch events. There appears to be no claim that Ali provided the streams himself.

At the time Ali?s domains were seized, ICE were very clear that they were targeting sites that were ?among the most popular on the Internet for illegally distributing copyrighted sporting events?, but since then his domains have received just 50,000 hits, even though masses of news coverage will have boosted interest among Internet users. But clearly not all hits turn into business.

While ICE claim that Ali charged a fee to view streams, they say that in approximately a year he made just $6,000. A tap of the calculator reveals that at the $6 ?cheap rate? just 1,000 ?tickets? were sold, at $12 just 500 and at the top rate, around 240. If this is what constitutes one of the ?most popular? sites, piracy is truly under control.

In August 2010, HQ-streams.com was hit with a direct court order from the UFC which restrained it from broadcasting their events, an order with which the site at least initially complied.

?Too (sic) All Members Of The Forum, There won?t be any UFC 118 stream here this Saturday,? said a notice posted on the site at the time. ?We don?t want our site to get into troubles (sic) with Zuffa!?

Troubles with Zuffa, it seems, were the least of their worries.

Marc Faber Explains How Even The "Greatest Bear On Earth" Gets It Wrong

by Tyler Durden, ZeroHedge

Marc Faber was on Bloomberg TV dispensing his traditional sarcastic and sardonic wit in copious quantities. Among the traditional topics touched upon are stocks and specifically trading ranges, "I think a lot of people will say the markets formed a double low and we have some technical indicators that are going to turn positive, so we could rally around 1,250, but as I said before, for me, we reached a high on May 2, 2011. 1,370 on the S&P--that we will not go through", on Operation Twist part 1 (already announced) and part 2 (coming): "To some extent we are in midst of QE3 already, because by announcing the Fed will keep zero interest rates until the middle of 2013, they basically encourage financial institutions to borrow short-term and to buy 10-year Treasuries" on a contrarian outlook on stocks: "I am the greatest bear on earth, but if you compare Treasury bond yields and equities, equities look reasonably attractive", on why Insider "buying" just as we have said repeatedly, is far too much ado about nothing: "Compared to all the selling in the last six months the buying is relatively muted" and lastly, like a gracious loser, Faber admits he was wrong and Rosenberg was right "David Rosenberg was right and I was wrong. The 30-Year has not made a new low. The low in December 2008 was 2.53%. Now we're around 3.4%"... although with a caveat: "Basically we have an artificial market." Alas, no strategic observations on what particular precious metal one's girlfriend would appreciate the most in the current gold-platinum parity environment.

Faber on whether this is the market rally he's been expecting:

"We had rally from the low on the ninth of August at 1,101 on the S&P to almost 1,200. Then we came right down again. Basically we did not make new lows. And now I think we can rally again for a while."

Faber on how long his view of the market is:

"I think a lot of people will say the markets formed a double low and we have some technical indicators that are going to turn positive, so we could rally around 1,250, but as I said before, for me, we reached a high on May 2, 2011. 1,370 on the S&P--that we will not go through. My view is you have a lot of people with strategies that are very bullish. They have a year-end target of around 1,400-1,450 on the S&P. Then you have the super bear. I think both camps will be disappointed."

On why the markets won't come back down again to the lows that were hit in 2009:

"On fundamentals one could make the case that we could go lower to around March 2009 lows at 666 on the S&P. But I think we have to be realistic that if the market dropped here another 10% or 15%, there would be for sure another quantitative easing move and other measures taken to support asset prices."

On what we'll hear from Bernanke on Friday and whether there will be a selloff of Treasures after that:

"I think what [Bernanke] will say is that they are monitoring the situation, and they will take 'appropriate measures' when they are required. To some extent we are in midst of QE3 already, because by announcing the Fed will keep zero interest rates until the middle of 2013, they basically encourage financial institutions to borrow short-term and to buy 10-year Treasuries."

On how uncertainty on a global level is affecting the markets:

"What I see extremely well is the stock market has traced out a major high between November of last year and June of this year and then fell sharply with very strong momentum and conviction very rapidly by close to 20%. I think that is a very important signal that we should not overlook. I think new highs are practically out of the question for the next six months to one year. We will likely move lower, but as I said, I do not think we will have a complete collapse."

On why he's not more bearish:

"I agree with you. I am the greatest bear on earth, but if you compare Treasury bond yields and equities, equities look reasonably attractive. I think we will have zero and below zero interest rates for the next 10 years. In other words, inflation adjusted to keep money in cash. Finally, the mood is so negative right now as a contrarian, you do not take a huge short position when people are as bearish as they are right now and when insider buying has picked up as much. I am as bearish as the greatest bear is. It is just that I do not believe stocks will implode."

On insider buying:

"The insider buying has picked up, but there is still a lot of insider selling. Compared to all the selling in the last six months the buying is relatively muted. The insiders in general are a group of people against whom I would not bet against necessarily. All I am saying is I am very bearish. I think we will have inflation. I think the Treasury market is a disaster waiting to happen. I think the economy will slow down. They're going to print money and we will go to war at some stage somewhere. So, you are probably better off in equities than in bonds. My favorite investment remains gold. As it happens the gold price is coming down, and I hope it will drop $100 or $200. Not necessarily a prediction. I think we will go down in a correction because there has been too much enthusiasm recently."

Faber commenting on Gary Schilling's bet against copper:

"I have known Gary Schilling since 1970 when we worked together. He has been a frequent bear about commodities and about copper. I happen to think copper is likely to come down, but I would not bet too heavily on it, because it takes a long time to bring on additional copper mines. Unless the Chinese economy collapses, the demand for copper will stay relatively high. If the Chinese economy collapses and Jim Chanos is right, then you want to be short not only copper, but short everything."

Faber where the 10-Year will go:

"I would like to remind you that the 10-year has made a new low. [Gluskin Sheff economist] David Rosenberg was right and I was wrong. The 30-Year has not made a new low. The low in December 2008 was 2.53%. Now we're around 3.4%. Basically we have an artificial market. The Fed has said we guarantee next to zero interest rates for the next two years. Banks and financial institutions are pouring into the 10-year because of the low rates at the present time. "

Status Change: Gold Moves From Investment To Money

by Rich Danker

Big banks do not typically give themselves over to political pronouncements, but that did not stop the Erste Group from declaring on the front page of its gold report published last month, ?The foundation of a return to ?sound money? has been laid.? The Austria-based financial services provider surveys the new dynamics of gold and monetary policy and finds that not only is its price likely to continue to rise, but so will its acceptance by governments as money.

?The past months have shown a clear trend: gold has been more and more regarded as the purest form of money and increasingly less as a commodity,? writes Erste analyst Ronald-Peter Stoferle. He tracks this status change in the way financial institutions like J.P. Morgan are accepting gold as collateral, states in the U.S. are pushing to declare gold as legal tender, and foreign central banks are adding it to their reserves. Why the movement to gold per se? It is an emphasis on asset-based rather than debt-based money. As Stoferle puts it, ?The possession of gold is tantamount to pure ownership without liabilities.?
